Overview
The aim of this Overhead Gantry Crane Instructor course is to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and attitude to train other in the safe operation of Overhead Gantry Cranes.
Who Should Attend?
This is for any individual who is looking to safety and competently deliver/Demonstrate the Overhead & Gantry Crane course.
Requirements
- Good level of English
- Training qualification or a Health & Safety Qualification (Level 6 minimum for either). Delegates who do not have either of these qualifications will be issued a Demonstrator’s qualification on successful completion of the course.
- All delegates will need to have previous experience in operating an Overhead Crane.
- Training Room or area
- Overhead Crane in good condition and good working order with valid GA1 certification. We will need access to the crane at various points over the 3 day period.
- Operator’s manual for Overhead Crane (if available).

- Roles & Responsibilities of the operator of Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Categories of Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Overhead Gantry Cranes Risk Assessment
- Safe use of Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Overhead Gantry Cranes Risk Assessment Risk Assessment
- Overhead Gantry Cranes operation
- Pre & Post Inspections of Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Maintenance of Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Assessments of operators on the use of Overhead Gantry Cranes
Day 2
- Health & Safety Legislation related to Overhead Gantry Cranes
- Roles & Responsibilities of the operator of lifting equipment
- Mandatory inspections of lifting equipment
- Determining the centre of gravity of the load
- Basic rigging practices
- Tension developed by sling angles
- Hitch selection and appliances
- Effect of sling angles on rigging and hardware]
Duration & Assessment
It takes three days to complete this course.
Certification
On completion of this course you will receive a certificate of completion valid for 5 years.
**Please note that this is not a public course and will only be held onsite with a company who possess an Overhead gantry Crane in full working order and with a minimum number of 4 people**
